Welcome to the Parents and Friends Association (PFA) of Swalecliffe CP School, web page. As parents of children attending Swalecliffe CP School you are automatically members of this association. We are an informal group of parents who give our time freely, organising fund raising and social events to enable the school to have additional funds for those 'extra luxuries' which not only enhance all aspects of the school but are also beneficial to a wide cross-section of the pupils.

We also aim to organise events which will be enjoyable for parents and pupils alike with the emphasis on 'fun'

The main aims of the PFA are to:

·        Bring together everyone who is interested in supporting the school

·        Support the school in providing the best possible education for the children

·        Run social events for carers and children

Fund raising events range from Easter and Summer Teas, Christmas Shopping for the children, pupil disco’s for the junior school and social events for parents, friends and families. New events we have tried this year have been a Treasurer Hunt which was held over a weekend. The pupils had to search local businesses and shops for letters of the alphabet, which then went onto form three words associated with the school. Another successful event was the Bag2School event, where bags of clothing were brought into school and collected. They were then weighed and the PFA was paid according to the weight. This raised around £120. There are now dates booked for June and November this year. In March we had a Quiz Night, which is always a lot of fun. Then in April we were lucky to be able to have the support of a well known local band “Hullabaloo” to play a gig in aid of the school at the Whitstable Brewery Bar.

We always need a range of help with fund raising from organising events, to making posters, cakes, collecting raffle prizes, writing letters, helping on the day with setting up and clearing away.

If you have any good fund raising ideas, we would love to hear about them.

Parents have very busy lives, with different schedules and commitments, and it is not always possible to attend meetings. We understand that not everybody wants or is able to make a regular commitment to attend meetings or to be part of the committee but would like to be involved in other ways.

We also always need help at fund raising events and support for social events.  You can bring your friends or come along and meet new friends for you and your children.

All parents are encouraged to come to meetings, contribute ideas and generally join in. Being part of the PFA can help people get to know the school and meet other parents.

The benefits of being involved.

·        Being part of your child’s early education.

·        Great nights out.

·        Getting to know other parents.

·        Advance notice of forthcoming events.

The PFA meets regularly. Please feel free to attend the meetings or if you can't make the meetings but you have a good idea for raising funds then just let a member of the committee or class rep know what it is.

The PFA is a great way to make new friends whilst helping to support the school.

Class Representatives

One of the functions of the PFA is to provide social events for the parents in addition to raising funds. The committee want to set up a system of parent representatives for each class, who would help to keep other parents of that class, informed of events & would also serve as a contact point. At other schools such representatives’ co-ordinate a voluntary contact list for parents in the class to help parents stay in touch. We would like to have a minimum of two contacts per class; we are in particular looking for parents in Years 2 - 6 as we have very few committee members or parent representatives from those classes. If you would like to join the committee or become a class representative please contact Elsa by leaving her a message in the office or via her e-mail.
